Slipgrid is a free, browser-based PDF imposition tool. You upload a PDF, choose how many pages should sit on each printed sheet, and it returns a print-ready file that lines up perfectly when you print double-sided. No installs, no sign-up, no watermarks.

What problem it solves

"Imposition" is the printing term for arranging several document pages onto one larger sheet so that, after printing and folding or cutting, the pages end up in the right order. Doing this by hand is fiddly, and most desktop print dialogs do a poor job of it — especially for duplex (two-sided) printing. When a printer flips a sheet to print the back, the page order has to be mirrored, or your fronts and backs won't align. Get it slightly wrong and you waste a stack of paper.

Slipgrid handles this for you. For an N-up layout (say a 3×3 grid — nine pages per side), it places the front pages in normal reading order, then builds the back side and reverses each row to compensate for the short-edge flip. The result is a sheet where page 1 backs onto page 2, page 3 onto page 4, and so on — exactly what you need for booklets, flashcards, handouts, prayer sheets, and study notes.

How it works

Everything runs through three steps: upload your PDF, configure the layout (rows, columns, paper size, and margin), and generate the imposed file to download. Behind the scenes Slipgrid calculates how many physical sheets are needed, scales each source page to fit its cell while preserving its aspect ratio, pads any leftover slots on the final sheet with blanks, and mirrors the back-side rows for duplex alignment. Pages are rendered using the PDF's native vector content where possible, so text stays crisp rather than being flattened to a blurry image.
